Flame Detection Systems

Some types of fires (such as hydrogen fires or alcohol fires that provide complete combustion) do not produce smoke or emit very little heat. In such situations or in very high-ceilinged, open areas, standard detectors may be insufficient. Teotek Marine Flame Detection Systems detect fires within seconds by optically seeing the Ultraviolet (UV) and Infrared (IR) radiations emitted by flames.

UV, IR, and UV/IR Technologies

• UV Detectors: Respond very quickly to UV radiation emitted by flames.
• IR Detectors: Monitor hot gas emissions of flames (CO2 band). Effective in dusty and dirty environments.
• UV/IR Combined Detectors: Analyze both wavelengths simultaneously, filtering false alarms (e.g., welding light, sun reflection) and responding only to real fires.

Flame detectors are indispensable in high-risk areas such as engine rooms, fuel filling stations, helicopter decks (helideck), and ammunition stores.
